TCMS Technology Connections –Technology I

Purpose of the Course:  This course is designed for the middle school student who has successfully completed lessons in proper techniques in keyboarding.  The students will learn the basic features and shortcuts for Microsoft Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.  While adding emphasis and pizzazz to their documents with graphics and color, students will use rules and guidelines to create reports, letters, calendars, greeting cards, a basic website, creative art, and a slide presentation.

Instructional Methods:  Lecture, class discussions, multimedia presentations, and the use of desktop computers will be used to instruct the students.  The TCMS Technology Lab has been equipped with desktop computer equipment from Dell along with PTSO donated digital cameras and photo-quality printers.

Class Rules:  The use of the computer equipment in the lab is a privilege.  Inappropriate behavior and/or use of the computer will lead to having the privilege taken away.

·        Be on time. (2 tardies = lost of 2 CHOICE points)

·        Be prepared.

·        Be respectful of the teacher, classmates, and school.

·        No food/drink/gum/candy in the lab. (Lost of 5 CHOICE points)

·        Must have TCMS Student AGENDA in class daily. (Lost of 4 CHOICE points)

Attendance and Make-up Work Policy:  If possible, inform the teacher in advance of an absence.  The student is responsible for asking for and making up missed assignments within an appropriate time frame.

Evaluations:  Students will maintain a folder in the technology lab.  The folder will contain all assignments.

·        66% (2/3) quizzes, test, keyboarding goals & projects

·        34% (1/3) class activity assignments & participation

Materials Needed:         A pencil daily.

TCMS Technology Connections - Keyboarding

Purpose of the Course:  This course is designed to introduce the middle school student to proper techniques in keyboarding, which is an important lifelong skill.  Frequent maintenance of the personal computer inside and out will be introduced.  It can be useful to be aware of how to manage viruses, spies, and spam.  Proper technique and formatting guidelines for reports in Microsoft Word will also be introduced.
