In 1978, I received a bachelor of science degree from Berry College.  In the fall I started my teaching career at a small school in northwest Georgia - Ballground in Cherokee County.  Over the years I have had careers in areas other than education.  In 1986, I moved to the northeast Georgia mountains and taught middle and high school in Hayesville, North Carolina.  Then I moved on to working with college-bound students in the admissions office at Young Harris College.  In 1996, I returned to the teaching profession at Towns County Comprehensive Schools where I have been assigned to teach many  subjects as well as grade levels such as:  middle school journalism, 8th grade earth science, high school biology, environmental science, human anatomy, physical education in the elementary and high school, and the in-school suspension program.   In August of 2003,  I completed my Masters of Science in Education degree from Walden University with a specialization in Integrating Technology in the Classroom.  In 2005, I was given the opportunity to create a technolgy lab for Towns County Middle School, which also includes teaching connection classes in keyboarding and software applications to 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  My teaching certifications are in Middle School (science, social studies and language arts), Physical Education and Health (K-12), and Biology (6-12).

Even though I grew up in Perry, which is located in the middle of the state, I now call the Hiawassee/Young Harris area my home.  In December of 2008, Chris Sudduth and I were married along the banks of the Hiawassee River.   We have three four-legged children -Butterbean, Swee'Pea (Border Terriers) and Daisy Mae (Jack Russell Terrier).  Chris has two grown children and one grandson.  I have family in the area.  My father and step-mother, Gene and Henrietta Brumbaugh, live in Hiawassee as well as my grandmother, who will be 100 years old in January.

I enjoy working in my flower gardens and watching the different birds that flock to my feeders.  Observing nature is a way I enjoy life.  My husband and I like to travel the mountain roads on a motorcycle.  It's a great way to see the country side.  I enjoy photography as a hobby too.

Reading a good book is another way I use my free time.  Some of my favorite authors are John Grisham, Nicholas Sparks, and Patricia Cornwell.  "Harris & Me" by Gary Paulsen is my all-time favorite book to read aloud to students.

My Mission Statement

My mission as a teacher is to help every student to become an active and life-long learner and to encourage curiosity, imagination, and creativity.  I will help my students to achieve their personal best by establishing high expectations in academics as well as in their behavior.  I will use humor as a motivating factor whenever possible.  I will hold my students accountable for their actions.
